There are certain professions that not everyone can perform such as being a brain surgeon, an astronaut, or even a lawyer. Each of these professions requires certain skills from those who choose to pursue them. When it comes to becoming a lawyer there are specific skills that are needed in order for one to perform their job efficiently. The great thing about the law is that there are many different aspects of the law that opens the door to those with different skills. Because of this, there is no list of skills that pertains to every single lawyer, yet there are certain things that every lawyer must have knowledge of in order to be successful.

First, you must be able to both listen and read these are skills that are invaluable to every lawyer. Next comes the ability to analyze problems and to be able to pick out the specifics. Writing and speaking is also a very important skill in order for any lawyer to communicate no matter what setting you choose to work in or what type of law you choose to pursue. As a lawyer you will also need to be able to represent your client and their interests in a successful manner, it is up to you to represent their case. In addition to listening, you will also find that counseling is a major part of your job. You will be providing legal counsel to clients; it becomes your job to help your clients understand their legal position. Negotiator is also a role that you will have to take as your choose to pursue law. When representing a client, you become the facilitator of their interests and it is up to you to negotiate what is best and fair for your client.

If you possess these skills, or feel that you can hone these important skills, law is a great career to pursue that will allow you to make a difference, help others, and allow you to influence the standards of law in our society.
